Mandela Day of Service 2016

Hello my sisters and brothers in Christ!

I pray you and yours are doing well. I am doing great, thanks to my Father in Heaven. To commemorate Mandela Day of Service 2016 this past Monday, July 18th, I served breakfast at So Others Might Eat (SOME) in our nation's capital, DC. SOME is an interfaith organization that serves the poor and homeless; they help break the cycle of homelessness by offering services, such as affordable housing, job training, addiction treatment, and counseling, to the poor, the elderly and individuals with mental illness. I have been volunteering at SOME for the past four years. My first time participating in Mandela Day was in 2004, where I cleaned the SOME shelter in DC organized by the embassy of South Africa in the U.S.  My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. And by this we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before Him. 1 John 3:18-19.
Nelson Mandela International Day was launched in recognition of Nelson Mandela’s birthday on July 18, 2009 via unanimous decision of the UN General Assembly. It was inspired by a call Nelson Mandela made a year earlier, for the next generation to take on the burden of leadership in addressing the world’s social injustices when he said that “it is in your hands now”. It is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy. It is a global movement to honor his life’s work and act to change the world for the better. And this is His commandment: that we should believe on the name of His Son Jesus Christ and love one another, as He gave us commandment. 1 John 3:23.

Nelson Mandela followed three rules throughout his life, which he did at great personal sacrifice:

  • Free yourself.
  • Free others.
  • Serve every day.

Mandela Day is a global call to action for citizens of the world to take up the challenge and follow in the formidable footsteps of Madiba, a man who transformed his life, served his country and freed his people. Its objective is to inspire individuals to take action to help change the world for the better and in so doing, to build a global movement for good.

God bless you.
Jesus loves you.
