God's Creation - Lamoille Canyon

Hello my sisters and brothers in Christ!

I pray you and yours are doing well. I am doing well, thanks to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. A few weeks ago, I went hiking at Lamoille Canyon. I hadn't been there since last Fall. Since we were hit pretty hard with snow this winter in northeast Nevada, some parts of the Ruby Mountains still have snow and other areas have beautiful waterfalls as a result of the snow melting. It was a beautiful Monday for hiking and I had a great time. Due to the fact that there's still a lot of snow on the roads, I couldn't go all the way to the top of the Canyon or even drive to it - had to walk about a mile before turning back to where my car was parked. There were a couple snowmobilers making the most out of the snow on the roads. As the months go by, I look forward to actually hiking the Ruby Mountains and enjoying the beauty of the mountain range that I share a name with.
And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.

God's Creation - Bryce Canyon National Park

Hello my sisters and brothers in Christ!

I pray you and yours are doing well. I am doing awesome, thanks be to God. This past week I was inspecting some aggregate pits in southwest Utah for slope stability and to create management plans for them. This was my first time on that side of the "Life Elevated" state. After work, I visited Bryce Canyon National Park. I was truly amazed by the beauty and formation of the hoodoos. I took lots of photos on my phone of the beauty I saw. Below are some of these photos.
Hoodoos are tall skinny spires of rock that protrude from the bottom of arid basins and "broken" lands. Formed in sedimentary rock, hoodoo shapes are affected by the erosional patterns of alternating hard and softer rock layers. The name given to the rock layer that forms hoodoos at Bryce Canyon is the Claron Formation. This layer has several rock types including siltstones and mudstones but is predominantly limestone. Thirty to 40 million years ago this rock was "born" in an ancient lake that covered much of Western Utah. Minerals deposited within different rock types cause hoodoos to have different colors throughout their height.
Last week truly showed me how beautiful southern Utah is and God's creativity in creating all that red rock country.
And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good...
Genesis 1:31

God bless you.
Jesus loves you.

Utah - Red Rock Country

Hello my sisters and brothers in Christ!

I pray you and yours are doing well. I am doing well, thanks to my Father in Heaven. This past week, I was in southwest Utah for work. I'm working on creating slope stability and management plans for some aggregates pits for the Dixie National Forest in Escalante, Bryce Canyon City, and Cedar City. I got to enjoy the beauty of Utah and its red rocks! East coast may have raised me but experiences like these are why I'm slowly falling in love with the west coast!

I may be a mining engineer and know about geologic periods but I'm also a Christian who is completely amazed at how creative God is for these geologic formations, such as the hoodoos in the two photos below at Bryce Canyon National Park. And to think that that creative creator created me. I am His creation. I am His masterpiece...and so are you!
Bryce Canyon National Park
To the world (and my supervisor who took the photo unbeknownst to me and sent it to me), the photo above may look like a mining engineer inspecting an aggregate pit for slope stability and highwalls but honestly...it's just a 20-something-year-old millennial conquering the elements at work so she can be able to pay off her student loans and afford her next vacation.
Corny mining engineer joke:
"Sometimes in life, you find yourself stuck between a rock and a hard place - literally"
In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
Genesis 1:1-2

God bless you.

Going Down Memory Reign: Being Miss Sierra Leone USA (Part III)

Hello my sisters and brothers in Christ!

I pray you and yours are doing well. I am doing well, thanks be to God! In honor of Sierra Leone's 56th Independence Day Anniversary on April 27th, I plan to share some moments of my reign as Miss Sierra Leone USA this week. On July 1, 2012, I competed in my first pageant and was blessed to have won, representing my city of birth and Sierra Leone's capital city, Freetown. My personal platform was advocating for SHERO - service, health, education, rights, and opportunities. As my reign progressed, I included advocating for the recruitment and retention of girls/women in STEM (science, technology, engineering, mathematics) into my platform; since it was a personal reflection of who I was then as a girl in a STEM-related major in college. As a mining engineer now, I have continued to advocate for that platform and I'm grateful for the MSLUSA title to have given me the stage to launch a life-long platform. Below are some highlights from my 2013 Homecoming to Sierra Leone as Miss Sierra Leone USA.

HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY, SIERRA LEONE!

Not that I am speaking of being in need, for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content. I know how to be brought low, and I know how to abound. In any and every circumstance, I have learned the secret of facing plenty and hunger, abundance and need.
